Description
A rare Chelsea gold anchor marked oval mazarine blue dessert dish, similar to the Mecklenburg-Strelitz service which was commissioned by King George III and Queen Charlotte for her brother, Adoplhus Frederick 1V, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1764.
This dish was probably made from the same moulds as the Mecklenburg-Strelitz service and decorated in a similar manner with cartouches of bouquets of flowers in polychrome with gilded birds on branches on a rich mazarine ground.
Circa: 1765.
Size; width, 28.5cm ‘11.25 inches’, diameter 223cm ‘9 inches’
Condition; hairline crack through the middle and previous staple holes on the reverse.
