A very rare Bow porcelain candlestick figure of the Roman Goddess “Flora and Cupid” in Greek mythology they were named  “Chloris and Putto”. She represents the season of Spring with flowering plants and wildflowers, especially flowers that bloom in May .

Flora meaning “flower” in Latin

Flora stands barefooted with her right arm around the candlestick holding flowers in her hand, the flowing robe is decorated with a multitude of hand painted flowers and leaves with a blue and yellow sash draped from her shoulder down to her waist.

Cupid, a symbol of romantic love, sits beside Flora with his arms aloft holding  a pot of flowers .

Around the candlestick there are numerous applied blossoms and leaves and the base has many cartouches highlighted in

turquoise and puce with all of these attribute’s it makes this candlestick manufactured at the Bow factory of London England in the mid eighteenth century “the season of spring“.

Circa:1758.

Condition: Very good professional restoration by “Ceramic Restoration Studios Ltd” to Flora’s neck, left arm and some petals, top of the pedestal and slight stain on the sconce.
