Description
A English Staffordshire pottery pearlware model of a recumbent Lion on green mound and a very rare oblong octagonal raised base with sprigs of applied leaves. The pearlware glaze pools perfectly around the eyes, main and base of this rare Lion.
The model is probably taken from the Lion named Nero in Wombwells traveling Menagerie which toured Great Britain from 1810 to the mid 1830s.
Nero was George Wombwell’s pet Lion.
Circa; 1820.
Size; 12cm long ,Height, 10cm
Condition; Good just three small chips in the brown line on the base restored.
