We are just a few miles from the Potteries where many of the Staffordshire items we sell were manufactured.
Alan and Gillian Finney are specialists in 18th and 19th Century pottery and porcelain from 1750 to 1860, we have over two hundred pieces of Chelsea, Bow, Derby and Worcester Plates, tea bowls, saucers, figures and animals .
Alan began his career, leaving School at the age of 15, in 1967 and trained at Monogram Studios in Congleton to be a restorer of pottery and porcelain. Alan’s position was to decorate the area of the pieces which had been re-assembled and prepared by his fellow workers. After spending 13 years there, Alan chose to leave and start his own Studio in 1979 under the name of Ceramic Restoration Studios at Yew Tree House Biddulph. The following year, Alan and Gillian did their first Antiques Fair at the Deanwater Hotel, just outside Wilmslow in Cheshire, then went on in years to come to do many more Fairs at Bingley Hall, Stafford and Wakefield Ceramics Fairs and the NEC ‘Antiques for Everyone’ .
Alan bought his current property at 3 John Street Biddulph in 1986, converting the downstairs rooms into an office with the Ceramic Restoration Studio using the upstairs rooms
Some years ago Alan and Gillian were asked by Scotland Yard Fraud Squad (Art and Antiques) to be “Expert Witnesses” and give evidence in the Crown Courts in London on whether items of pottery had been restored or not .
Alan and Gillian still continue buying and selling antiques through Alan Finney Antiques Ltd and restoring items for some of the worlds leading antiques dealers, collectors, Museums and the British Royal family, receiving a Royal Warrant in 2018 for Ceramic Restoration Studios Limited into the place and quality of Ceramic Restorer by command of His Royal Highness The former Prince of Wales, now in 2024 His Majesty King Charles III.
